Do you have children ages 2 or under? Then Mother Goose Lapsit is a story time designed for you! Held on Mondays at 10:30 a.m., enjoy a half-hour of developmentally appropriate play featuring stories, songs, and rhymes. This program introduces little ones to the story time experience and is perfect for their language development and developing vocabulary. Sign-up is not required.

The Huntsville Public Library will be hosting a FREE Chronic Disease Self-Management Workshop from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Mondays starting on April 23, 2018 in the Community Room. The six-week program will be taught by Ce Cowart Schlicher and Dianne Dean with the Texas A & M Center for Population Health & Aging. Participants will learn: techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, isolation and poor sleep; exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance; appropriate use of medications; proper nutrition and communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals. Get in on the fun! Play Texas 42 at the Huntsville Public Library. Texas 42 is a dominoes game similar in style to bridge and spades. It is held from 1 to 3 p.m. Mondays at the Library. Studies show playing dominoes can be beneficial for the mind as attention to detail and strategy are essential to play. So, come to the Library each week and strategize your winning moves. We’ll supply the dominoes and refreshments. Games will be played weekly if 4 or more players register. This program is for adults 18 years and older. Pilates student teachers from the SHSU Department of Dance will teach a weekly class from 5:45 PM to 6:30 PM starting Monday, February 19 through April 30th in the Community Room at the Huntsville Public Library. The Library is partnering with the SHSU Center for Community Engagement for this program. Pilates classes build strength, flexibility, and lean muscle tone with an emphasis on lengthening the body and aligning the spine. Benefits include production of long, lean, strong overall muscle tone that doesn't create bulk, overall slimming, greatly improved flexibility and increased mobility, even in just a short space of time. Please bring your own towel or mat. Consult your doctor before starting any new exercise program. Liability waivers are required to participate and are available from the instructor. Get fit while you sit with Sittercise! Start 2018 off with a new exercise program being offered from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning January 9th at the Huntsville Public Library in conjunction with Huntsville Memorial Hospital. Sittercise is designed to help those who are aging and/or dealing with chronic and other illnesses. It focuses on strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, endurance, and overall improved function. Please consult your doctor before starting any new exercise program. Liability waivers are required to participate and are available from the instructor. The class is free and open to adults ages 18 and older. Boost your computer knowledge with Intermediate Computer Classes hosted by the Huntsville Public Library! Classes will be weekly on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. starting April 3 in the Adult Computer Lab. These hour long classes will feature how to create and save files, move files into folders, delete file types, and download files and programs. Class size is limited and registration is required. Come to Story Time – a fun early literacy program for kids 5 and under. Join us for interactive stories, songs, rhymes, and crafts. The early literacy practices featured each week help build the foundation for a lifelong love of reading and learning. For parents and caregivers, story time offers an opportunity to experience early literacy practices in action, discover great books and resources for home use, and socialize with other parents after Story Time. The Huntsville Public Library in conjunction with Law, Engagement, and Politics (LEAP) Center will host a free, five-week Citizenship Preparation Course from Thursday, April 5th to Thursday, May 3rd. The classes will be held from 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. in the Huntsville Public Library's Community Room. The course is designed to prepare immigrants for the U.S. Naturalization Test and will cover the application process, oral interview, and exam. All necessary materials will be provided.
