Welcome to the recruiting section of the Huntsville Fire Department's web site. We understand that for the department to be successful, recruiting is the foundation. We strive to have our department reflect the diversity of our community. If you are interested in firefighting, either full time or volunteer, as a career you are encouraged to explore this site further.
Hiring, each applicant must
successfully complete the following:
Criminal History Check
Written Exam
Physical Agility
Presentation
Oral Interview
Physician's physical
Upon your offer of employment if you are a certified firefighter with the Texas Commission on Fire Protection you will enter into an intensive training program with the department. This will familiarize you with the operations, policy and procedures of the department. During this time you will be assigned with a full time firefighter. Should you not be a certified firefighter the Huntsville Fire Department will pay a salary to you at the recruit level and pay for your attendance at a local fire academy of our choice. Once you have successfully passed the academy and become a certified firefighter you will enter into our training program.
We offer several areas of career development once you have completed all training requirements. You may join the hazardous materials team, high angle rescue team, dive recovery team.
